"Tree Targets,"  Sun Post, 7/13/06
A Decade of Planning (A UEMC document summarizing the need for removal of the historic palms).
"When royals grow to maturity on a roadway as narrow as the Boulevard's, their cement gray trunks
resemble the dull concrete of light poles."

"It is very clear what the Upper Eastside vision for their roadway is, and itincludes shade and palm
trees, not the huge out-of-scale royal palms."

"We specifically mentioned that we did not want the look or the feel of South Dixie Highway, a major
traffic artery.  Our vision includes native shade trees and smaller palms that would be safer, easier to
maintain."

"All (including federal law) deemed royal palms inappropriate for Biscayne's narrow roadway and the
primary reason is vehicular safety."
"A Miami Emblem is Sacrificed for Shade," New York Times, 1/22/06
"'These are trees that look like telephone poles when they grow up,' said Robert
Flanders, whose civic group, the Upper Eastside Miami Council, supports the removal."
Conflicting and borderline slanderous statements by UEMC
These statements  certainly do not represent an organization which is to convey an interest in public input or those
citizens they represent.  Instead, they convey a group of people interested in discrediting any person who might have a
different opinion than theirs - be it home owner, Miami resident or city official.  Is it construction--or is it personal?

“The existing palms are being removed for construction reasons and construction reasons only,
they are simply in the way.”
